Eddie Ako TV Ad

Eddie Villanueva’s political ad, performed by Gloc 9. I may vote for Villanueva in the coming Philippine election in May. My other choices are Manny Villar, Gibo Teodoro and Noynoy Aquino, in that order.

I like Eddie because he is good in people and economic management. He is not just all spiritual, but also practical. He went to UP and PUP for economic studies and stuff, and the development he did to his JIL ministries is a testament to it.

Why Kayumanggi is Not Filipino

For many years Filipinos believed that having a “kayumanggi” (brown) skin is one of the visual evidence that a resident in the Philippines is a true Filipino.

I disagree.

It is a Southeast Asian thing. The brown skin is a common feature of people living in South Asia such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and even those in Hawaii and Samoan Islands. So it’s not solely a Pinoy thing.

Racist thing now. With the growing popularity of political correctness, the kayumanggi idea can now be considered “racist.”

If a Filipino citizen has a light skin or is of Spanish or Chinese descent, then he or she is not a true Filipino. Yeah right.

This is just my opinion.

Reorganizing of Articles

The articles and television interview
This site is reshuffling some articles, the old ones some date back as 2007 has been put on the front page.  Practically, the articles are about Filipino nationalism or something about the Philippines, purposely for Gwapito‘s forthcoming interview to be aired on Imbestigador on GMA7 within this month. Although, it is still unsure if the specific interview would be included in the two part series (?) entitled “Pilipino Ka Ba?”

Password protected articles
Some articles especially about Gwapito’s deepest personal secrets and “blind items” are now password protected. The original intent of this site was for its author to be anonymous, but carelessness and the upcoming television appearance make it more impossible. The articles can only be accessed by the author himself.

Christians Should Quit Protesting

Christians complaining and protesting against gay rights, women’s rights, abortion rights and other rights makes them unbecoming in my opinion.  I am a Christian myself, and i try not to talk about the subject i have little knowledge about. Not everyone should presume to be teachers as what the bible says.

Complaining and protesting makes us look worried. We also could not always impose Christian principles on every law that lawmakers are creating. As the world near its end, so does the people of this world become increasingly evil. This has been predicted already. Little by little, the laws would oppose everything Christian.

We may protest only if our constitutional rights are violated.

What is a True Filipino?

A true Filipino has the compassion and action that would benefit his fellow Filipinos.

Please stop the crap that a true Filipino should speak straight tagalog and should have the accent of Manilans!

How to donate to the victims of Ondoy (Ketsana).

My Mindanao Mind and the Metro Manila Media

What the media conveys is accepted by the masses with arms wide open not considering if the content is right or wrong. Racial and ethnic stereotyping in Philippine media has been going on unchecked and accepted as normal, especially in the previous century, although I observed that there has been a “slight” reduction of such the past few years.

As a child growing up in Mindanao I was made to believed that my first language Cebuano was the most inferior language or dialect in the world. I thought tagalog was in the upper level of status, a notch lower than English.

I could still vividly remember we had a neighbor who got married in Manila; she brought her kids with her for a long vacation. Her two kids were the stars and had all the special attention when all the children including me played with them. A month or two later, her kids started to speak a little Cebuano. She freaked out. Her kids should not speak an inferior language, she brought her kids back to Manila. At the back of my seven year old mind, I agreed with her.

Metro Manila t.v. shows made me think that way. Our language and accent was the constant subject of bigot jokes in comedy shows. My reaction was just laughed it off thinking it was just normal. Media is a powerful tool that even the erroneous or non-existent ideas are born acceptable.

Take for example the words “soccer” and “football.” Americans call the number one sport in the world “soccer” because they’ve created their own and called it “football.” Since the US is considered the media center of the world, the word “soccer” has been the accepted name for “football.” Although the word/sport “football” was invented by England thirty years before the Americans had their own brand of football.

Thank God, i got educated in Cebu, it was there that i learned to love my first language, to be vocal of the stupidity of the Manila media, thus this blog.

Filipino Complainers Versus Alec Baldwin

The Filipinos are at it again. I should rephrase that:  “some of the Filipinos” are at it again. Another complaining attitude. This time against Alec Baldwin.

Before Baldwin, there were Teri Hatcher of Desperate Housewives and Chip Tsao, just to name a few.

Filipinos complained after Alec Baldwin said that he will buy a Filipina wife since he is now 51 years old. Filipinos were insulted with his words.

I believe  Americans are more visible targets to insults than Filipinos, and i still have to hear them filing an official complaint.

I hope the Filipinos will learn to eschew the “victim” mentality.

Tagalog Movies still a Waste of Time and Money!

This post is rather late. It’s about my latest lowlife experience again with Tagalog movies. It happened last December. It has been two years since i last seen a full tagalog movie.

While i was in the first 15 minutes of eight hours wait for my flight from Cebu to Manila, i had to find something to fill my vacant time, and thus watching a movie is a perfect filler.

SM Cebu was the best choice since it was just close to the airport.

Unfortunately, all the movies shown at that time was all tagalog. It was Manila Filmfest season. So i chose “Baler,” it won the Best Movie. Starred by Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis. I thought my hard earned money would not go down the drain because the movie won an award. And of course, tagalog movies “probably” have improved by now.

Jose Rizal and Today's Filipino Nationalism

Jose Rizal and today’s Pinoy nationalism is filled with ironies. To begin with, I’m not saying Jose Rizal was wrong, it is today’s idea of Pinoy nationalism.

Who was Jose Rizal? I won’t be writing about his whole biography here. Go to National Bookstore, buy a Rizal book.

Okay, basically, Jose Rizal was:
1. Rizal was part Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. His great great grandfather was from the mainland China. He may appear brown Malay in the photos. But usually photos could not show a person’s foreign features especially at that time.
2. He spoke different languages. Used Spanish in most of his writings. Could also be fluent in German since he spent many months in Germany.
3. He used European made products. Since he was traveling out of country, it is just right for him to use the products of the country he was visiting.

Today’s erroneous idea of a true Filipino:
1. Should speak tagalog.
2. Should patronize Filipino products.
3. Should work and live only in the Philippines.
4. Should have a dark brown skin.
Read more about this in my previous entry entitled, “Wrong Ideas about Filipino Nationalism“.
